Winery Spotlight: Reverie Winery
Reverie Winery is a very special place to not only me, but many people who have made the trek to Napa for the last 20 years! Reverie opened in 1995 on a tiny hillside located on Diamond Mountain in Calistoga. Diamond Mountain is an area that was so hard to plant because of the acid rich volanic soil, it earned the name Diamond Mountain from the diamond like shards of glass from volcanic eruptions in years past. The wines coming from diamond mountain represent great structure and age ability. The very special part of Reverie that allows them to stand out from the crowd, they prefer to make a softer, more fruit forward, approachable wine that can age, but also be appreciated in its youth. Some would consider their wines Bordeaux in style, but others would argue the are 100 percent Ted Lemon in style. Very few know that Ted Lemon (Littorai Wines) has been the consultant Winemaker for Reverie since they opened, giving their wines a very distinctive style appreciate by all walks of life, especially the Sommelier crowd and tourists of all kinds! If you're lucky enough to taste some library selections from Reverie, you will be in for a treat!
Reverie offers wine tours by appointment only and take groups of 6 or less, so make sure to call ahead and secure your private walking tour of their beautiful grounds, seen below, with a little fashion advice of what to wear when you visit :)
I must admit that these pictures of the Vineyards are from a time during harvest when the vines are bursting with grapes and not a current photo from this month...just a little disclaimer for anyone wanting to call me out - I got you ;)
Reverie Winery is open 7 days a week and by appointment (click here to call Reverie). They offer limited tours per day, so be sure to call early to secure a space! The wines they serve as part of their tour generally rotate, but they are well known for having one of the best Cabernet Franc's in the valley, as well as Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Verdot, Malbec and Barbera! Don't miss out on this truly hidden gem, off the beaten path winery!
